In furtherance to ensure promotion and development in the tourism sector, Ogun State government has reiterated its commitment to invest more in security, infrastructure and human capital development, towards encouraging investors to the State.
The State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun gave this assurance at the 2024 World Tourism Day celebration, at the Herbert Ogunde Hall, Cultural Center, Kuto, Abeokuta.
Governor Abiodun said tourism encompasses economic activities, which must flourish in a peaceful environment, noting that his administration would prioritize safety, as tourism becomes destination for all.
Represented by his deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the Governor said tourism had the potential to create job, promote unity and serve as avenue to sustain peace, calling for private sector partnership with the state government.
Also speaking, Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Olusesan Fagbayi, while delivering the UN Secretary General's , stated that the theme for the year°Tourism and Peace" was carefully choosen to reflect on the profound connection between Tourism and Peace, as tourism brings people of diverse cultures together.
Fagbayi emphasized the need to value, preserve cultural and natural heritage, as they could help reduce tensions and nurture peaceful co-existence globally.
Earlier in his speech, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Yusuff Quudus described the World Tourism Day as a moment to reflect on the profound impact that tourism has on the society, economically, socially and culturally.
Presenting a paper titled, '`Tourism and Peace: A Pathway to Global Harmony and Economic Prosperity", a lecturer in the Department of Hospitality and Tourism, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta
Dr. Ibrahim Kukoyi, highlighted the importance of Tourism in building more inclusive and peaceful world by embracing sustainable and responsible Tourism practices, fostering cultural exchange as well as supporting economic development in order to harness the power of Tourism to create a better future for all.
He commended the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led government for the celebration and its zeal for promoting the annual event.
Others, who made presentations include, the Chief Executive Officer, First Heritage Culture and Hospitality limited, Prince Abiola Ogundeko and Chairman , House Committee on Culture and Tourism , Hon. Odunuga Olusegun Kaka.
