The Ogun State Government has advised industries in its domain to work towards sourcing for materials locally as a way of empowering residents who have the capabilities to supply needed items.
This ' Backward Integration ' advice was given by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Olu. Ola. Aikulola,during an official visit to the Gateway Plant of International Breweries Plc in company of top management staff of the Ministry, along Sagamu-Abeokuta road.
Aikulola said that local sourcing of materials which would come cheaper, would reduce the burden of transportation and enhance the economic lives of residents of the State.
He noted sorghum as an agricultural product that can be found in Ogun State without having to travel far, urging companies within the State to see the move as a way of achieving laudable backward integration in the location of their operation.
The Permanent Secretary, who commended the company for its safety and hygiene standard, also said the commitment of government to revenue generation drive should be supported by various industries through prompt payment of taxes and other levies.
" Beyond sourcing for your materials in Nigeria,we want you to source in Ogun State. We have farmers who grow sorghum, for instance, in our State. This would cut cost of transportation and make you get your materials at cheaper rates.
"The blood of government is revenue which is used to put infrastructure in place, health services, security, and others. We want all companies operating in our State to be committed to paying their taxes and levies, "he said.
In his remarks, the Plant Manager, Gateway Plant of IB Plc., Mr. Akintayo Oguntunde, thanked the State government for providing an enabling environment for them to operate, assuring that his organisation would remain committed to its corporate social responsibilities.
