Ogun State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation ( RUWATSAN) in collaboration with National Clean Nigeria, Use the Toilet Campaign Secretariat (NCNUTCS) has said that vigorous advocacy will be carried out across the 20 Local Government Areas,  to make the State free of open defecation.
This was revealed by the National Coordinator, NCNUTCS, Mrs. Chizoma Opara during a two-day capacity building for members of the State Task Group on Sanitation (STGS) with the theme; "Pilot implementation of Community-Led Total Sanitation Approach (CLTS) in Local Government Areas".

Mrs. Opara, represented by the Director, Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Mr. Nwanyanwu Ezeakachi stated that the advocacy would kick-start in Ikenne Local Government, towards improving sanitation and encouraging the grassroots on hygiene behaviour, adding that the Ogun would be among the leading States to be declared Open defecation free State by the
 year 2025.

Contributing, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development, Mr. Adewale Adetayo commended the government for the prompt release of funds to facilitate campaigns against open defecation in the State.

He noted that the step had berthed the uptake of toilets constructed by households in Ikenne Local Government Area, applauding the effort of (RUWASTAN) and Clean Nigeria Campaign Secretariat for the success of the exercise which had led to Open Defecation Free (ODF) status in some wards.

The Permanent Secretary lauded the giant strides of the United Nations International Children's Fund (UNICEF) through the intervention of the Unilever Global Foundation in Odeda Local Government, charging participants to take advantage of the training required for the ODF certification process.

In his welcome address, the State Programme Manager, RUWATSAN, Mr. Sola Ogunbo said the training comprised of participants from line ministries, adding that sensitisation would hold Statewide on the importance of certification and declaration of open defecation-free status.
