The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Allied and Education Institutions have on Saturday suspended their strike actions.
The strike was suspended after a brief meeting with the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu in Abuja.
However, the Academic Staff Union of Universities rejected the government’s proposal over the “no work, no pay” rule and it had insisted that it would also apply “no pay no work” policy.
SSANU and NASU strike suspension is expected to take effect from next Wednesday.
The minister had hinted of SSANU and NASU’s strike suspension on Thursday.
Adamu Adamu said the Federal Government has committed N50bn to pay earned allowances for members of SSANU, NASU and the ASUU.
ASUU’s President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke on Friday while featuring on Channels Television’s Sunrise said salary backlogs of six months must be cleared before lecturers would return to the classroom.
Recall that ASUU has been on strike since February 14.
Well meaning Nigerians and students have been appealing to the FG and ASUU to reach an amicable settlement on the lingering crisis.
