OGUN CLOSES DOWN COMPANY FOR OPERATING ILLEGALLY IN RESIDENTIAL AREA.

For operating illegally in a residential area  under false pretence of a warehouse and constituting environmental nuisance, the Ogun State government has shut down a metal haulage company,RST International Limited in Ajileja Community,Ibafo in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the State.

Closing down the industry, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment,Hon Farooq Akintunde  said aside from operating illegally in the residential area under false pretence of a warehouse,the management of the company has failed to 
heed several warnings to relocate its operation to a more appropriate place.


Akintunde also accused the company of constituting environmental nuisance to the residents of the community.

"In the first place,the company which specialises in buying and selling of heavy metal stachion and beams dubiously came into the residential area on the false pretence of just locating a warehouse in the area" he stated. 


He said that following investigation it was discovered that the said warehouse was where the company really operates as loading and offloading of these stanction and beams by heavy trucks which constitute noise pollution, trepidations and health challenges to residents of the Ajileja Community are done in the supposed warehouse.

Akintunde added that the state government will not fold its hand and watch a company put the health of its residents in danger and warns others operating in residential areas to relocate to designated industrial estates or face sanctions.

Also speaking,the Chairman of the Ajileja  Community Development Association,Mr Kunle Moibi thanked the State Government for the intervention stating that the environmental infractions caused by the company in the community is huge as the corrosion of its metals has affected their underground water,dust and noise pollution as well as other untold hazards.
