Towards expanding the tax net for improved Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in the State, officers of the Pay As You Earn Unit ( PAYE), in the Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS) have been enjoined to work closely with tax agents to ensure that taxes are properly deducted from employees’ salaries and remitted appropriately as and when due into government coffers.
The Executive Chairman of OGIRS, Mr. Olugbenga Olaleye gave this advice at a meeting with Tax Office Managers, Zonal Coordinators and PAYE officers in all tax stations across the State at the agency’s headquarters in Abeokuta.
Olaleye said it is necessary for them to acquire more knowledge that would enable them to understand tax laws applicable to their various beats, which could be used effectively to generate additional revenue.
According to him, the PAYE unit of the agency was very essential as it was expected to generate a larger percentage of total revenue figure of the agency, adding that through hard work and ingenuity of the officers, expected revenue target would be achieved.
