Ogun Judicial Panel: No Police Officer was denied Legal Representation

Contrary to insinuations, complaints and allegations from some quarters that the Ogun State Judicial Panel of Investigation has denied police officers legal representation at its ongoing sittings, the Chairman of the Panel, Hon. Justice Solomon Olugbemi has debunked the allegation saying, "never was there a time that the Panel denied any officer or petitioner legal representation".

Justice Olugbemi who made this known on Tuesday in Abeokuta while addressing news men said, "In fact, it may interest the public to know that during the first and second sittings of the Panel, a police seargent attended the sitting as legal representation for some of the police officers who appeared before the Panel and he was never denied appearance".

While leading other Panel members on a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police in the State, CP Edward Ajogun, the Chairman had earlier said that, "any security operative who believes that his or her rights has been violated can also file his or her petition accompanied with evidence because it is not a one-sided affair".

"The Panel was not set up to witch hunt any security operative but to investigate any form of police brutality, abuses and violations of human rights as well as extra judicial killings by security operatives in the State and to make appropriate recommendations to government", Justice Olugbemi added.
