In commemoration of the International Day of Charity 2020, wife of the Ogun state Governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun has given food and other items to the less privileged and vulnerable ones in the society.
Represented at the Nigeria Correctional Service, Ogun state Command, Ibara, by wife of the Commissioner for Urban and Physical Planning, Mrs. Comfort Odunlami, Mrs. Abiodun said government and individuals had the responsibility of checking on the inmates and catering for their needs because they formed an integral part of the society.
According to her, "the challenges you are facing are understandable and will not be like this forever, because I know that you will still make positive impact on the society and on your own lives too".
She encouraged them to adequately utilize the opportunity of the various vocations they were thought and be determined to put them to use when they were back in the society to enhance their livelihood.
Speaking on behalf of the Officer in charge of the command, Deputy Comptroller of Corrections,, Damero Shuaib,the Chief Superintendent of Corrections and Social Welfare Officer, Mr. Abdulhakeem Awesu, appreciated Mrs. Abiodun's demonstration of love for the inmates and urged the government to further look into their plight, noting that Ogun state had the highest number of convicts on death roll in the nation.
Others visited by the First Lady's team were people associated with leprosy at the Hansens Disease Centre, Iberekodo; the needy and physically challenged, sheltered by the government at Lafenwa and the less privileged at Ilisan Remo as well as Ijebu Ode among others.
