ABIODUN VISITS FLOOD AFFECTED AREAS, PROMISES LASTING SOLUTION

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun says his administration was working towards finding a lasting

solution to the perennial flooding that caused havoc in some parts of Abeokuta, the State capital.

Speaking when he visited areas affected by the recent torrential rain in Abeokuta, Prince Abiodun disclosed that dredging of canals, as well as clearing of refuse in drainages across the State capital were on-going, saying his government had accessed the damage caused to the roads and bridges, with a view to carrying out a comprehensive and proper channelisation of the waterways, to bring permanent solution to the perennial flooding.

" I thank God that no life was lost. I want to assure you that we will repair the damaged roads, expand the drainages and bridges, so that when heavy rain falls, it would be able to accommodate the large amount of water and with this, the problem of erosion would be a thing of the past", he said.

The Governor who regretted the huge loss caused by the flood, attributed the flooding to rapid development, urging the people to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse, building structures on waterways, while assuring that government would assist those whose property were lost during the flood to ease their plight.

Speaking, the Secretary, Isale-Oja, Kuto, Community Development Association, Alhaji Bello Mohammed, informed the Governor that his community had been experiencing flooding on yearly basis in the last 10 years, as a result of water flowing from other parts of the city to the area.

He appreciated government for showing concern to the plight of the people, noting that proper channelisation of the canal, with adequate drainage system would bring an end to the flooding.

Areas inspected by the Governor were Isale-Oja, Ago-Ijesha and Ijeun Titun, all in Abeokuta.
