Ogun State Government has been commended for encouraging parents and guardians to enroll their
sexually active teenagers for life and family planning, in order to avoid unwanted pregnancies 
While schools were on lockdown.
The President, Life Planning Ambassadors for Youth under the aegis of The Challenge Initiative (TCI), Mr. Michael Ogunmefun gave the commendation during an interview with newsmen in Abeokuta, saying parents should be concerned about the sexual and reproductive health needs of their children and wards.
Ogunmefun said the lockdown had exposed young adults to a myriad of challenges ranging from physical, social, economic, mental and reproductive health issues, which forced them to make hasty and risky decisions, noting that sex education would go a long way at reducing rate of unwanted pregnancies in the society.
He added that introduction to family planning at an early age, would assist them make informed choices, saying young adults, who took up contraceptives as a means of life planning, needed parental support to overcome stigmatization.
Also speaking, the Secretary, TCI, Dr. Damilola Ogundina, appreciated the present administration's efforts towards ensuring that life planning services were available for young adults, especially during the lockdown, urging those willing to take up a method to approach the Youth Friendly Units of government health facilities, for professional counselling and services.
She noted that although abstinence was a better choice, taking up a contraceptive method however, would ensure that teenagers and young adults prevent unwanted pregnancies and unsafe abortions, emphasising that the decision would enable them achieve their goals in life.
