Ogun State government says it will deal ruthlessly with rapists, as its Judiciary will leave no stone unturned in administering justice
whenever rape cases were brought to any law court in the State.
The Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, who stated this at the commissioning of the Magistrate Court, Ido-Oke, Igbesa Land in Ado-Odo/Ota, Local Government Area of the State, warned people to desist from the repulsive acts, adding that anyone found guilty would face the full wrath of law.
Justice Dipeolu said increase in rape cases across the country had become worrisome, which she noted, resulted in pressure groups calling on government to declare a state of emergency on the menace in the country, saying, "rape has become a global phenomenon; the appalling side of rape in our clime has to do with recklessness of the perpetrators, lackluster response of justice administrators and absence of institutional supportive system to help the victims".
She said the newly built Magistrate Court would bring justice closer to the people and avert jungle justice, pointing out that it was built in the spirit of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
The Chief Judge explained that there were incidents of delay in the adjudication of cases, as parties had to wait for a long time before the conclusion of their cases, due to the enormous workload of existing Magistrate Courts, adding that proper administration of justice would not be achieved until the existence of new courts and appointment of new Magistrates.
She said the State government had been able to appoint more Magistrates to reduce the workload on the existing ones, while on the verge of appointing more Chief Magistrates due to their shortage in that cadre, calling on stakeholders in the administration of justice to ensure proper implementation of the seven-point agenda of the present administration, as all hands must be on deck to sustain the court.
Earlier in his address, the Olu of Idi-Oke Kingdom, Igbesa Land, HRM. Oba Muhammed Odusanya, said the construction of the Court would not have been possible without the support of the Chief Judge and her team, noting that the development of any society could also be achieved through meaningful contributions from individuals and groups.
He appreciated the State government, the collective contribution of the staff of Judiciary and individuals for the support towards the completion of the court.
