The wife of Ogun State Governor and the first Lady, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun has thrown her weight behind the widows in the State as the world celebrate International Day of the Widows.
Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun in a statement said widows are the most vulnerable people in the society whose plights of protection and rights needed to be safeguarded under the laws.
In estimation, she added that about 258 millions widows worldwide, and one of ten of them live in extreme poverty and it was already expected that the numbers would rise as the COVID-19 pandemic takes its toll.
According to The First Lady "Every time I hear heart-wrenching stories of the problems that the widows face at the hands of even family members and the larger society, my heart bleeds".
Narrating further, "The family should be the first place, where every one of us can receive help and support, but all too often they can become places of violence and discrimination, especially for widows". She said.
Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun advocated that the people should show widows, most especially in Ogun State "how valuable they are to the society as they celebrate the 2020 International Widows Day".
