LOCKDOWN EASE: OGSG PROMISES CONTINUOUS PROVISION OF NUTRITIONAL NEEDS

As the fifth week lockdown in Ogun, Lagos and FCT, Abuja will be eased next week, Ogun State

Government says, it will continue to provide the nutritional needs of its citizens by providing them food items.

          Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, made this known while receiving food items and drinks donated by the management of Intercontinental Distillers Limited (IDL), to support the State Government in its effort to mitigate the effects of lockdown on its citizens.

          Engr. Salako-Oyedele said, despite the fact that the lockdown would be eased next week, the State Government would still continue to support its residents, noting that, ‘’easing the lockdown will not on the first day take people back to where they were before the pandemic, as many people will still need quite some few weeks to re-adjust and get back to where they are’’.

          ’’As of today, we have provided well over 200,000 packs of foods, when we considered the ones donated directly to Local Governments and the ones donated to specific interest groups across the state to be able to support their membership in mitigating the effect of this lockdown’’, she noted.

          According to her, ‘’we have to continue to engage people across the state on the challenges that COVID-19 continues to pose to us. Just last night, we still had another six cases confirmed in the state, so community spread is on the rise and once the lockdown is eased, people will move around en masse and the opportunities to spread will increase. We are hoping that by being on lockdown for five weeks, people have gotten acquisition of the diseases’’.

          While also thanking the company for donating food items to Ilogbo in Ota, its host community, she expressed optimism that the company would continue to support the State government in its engagement with the people across the state, as well as sensitising the citizens on the pandemic.

          The Deputy Governor, however, said the State would enforce 100 percent mask policy and ‘’everybody who goes out must wear a face mask’’, urging the company to encourage people in its area operation to comply with mask wearing, as the state has produced over a million masks for adult and children.

          Earlier in his presentation, the Managing Director and Chief Executive of Intercontinental Distillers Limited, Engr. Patrick Anegbe appreciated the State Government’s efforts in the fight against Coronavirus, adding that, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibilities, the company has brought 1,000 bags of rice, 1,000 cartons of noodles and 200 cases of Veleta wines to mitigate the effect of the lockdown in the State.

          In a related development, Niger Biscuit Company Limited, represented by Mr. Atare Madagwa, also donated 1,500 cartons of various brands of biscuits  to the State Government.
