COVID-19: OGUN RESTATES COMMITTMENT TO CONTAINMENT

 Towards containment of the coronavirus, Ogun State Government has assured the citizens of the state that it will leave no stone unturned, just as it added that,

competent team of public health practitioners have been working hard, providing health care services across the State.

          The State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, made this know in her office, at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, while playing host to delegates of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Lagos Zone, who came to support the State government with 1000 bottles of hand sanitizers, led by Comrade Biodun Ogunyemi.          Engr. Salako-Oyedele revealed that, to further curb the spread of the virus in the State, the Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration has provided some driving testing, where people can get tested, especially those at the border communities, adding that this step would also allow citizens, with some vital symptoms, get tested, noting that about 300 people can be tested daily.

          ’’One of the challenges we have seen in our sister state in Lagos is that, there has been extensive community spread and because we share border with Lagos, we know that we have to start looking at our border communities to make sure we arrest any incident before it start to spread across the state and as such, the Governor has provided some testing in those areas, which we called driving testing and this would be launched later this week’’, She said.

          Earlier in his address, the National President, ASUU, Comrade Biodun Ogunyemi, pointed out that, on March 23rd, 2020, ASUU directed all its 70 branches and 13 zones to play active role in the fight against the spread of Coronavirus in Nigeria, saying the Association had been involved in production, presentation and distribution of information, education and communication materials, hand sanitizers, facilities for hand washing among others, in not less than 20 states of the federation.

          Ogunyemi added that, ASUU had allowed its members participate in COVID-19 control efforts, despite the ongoing nation-wide strike, in order to demonstrate its concern for health and wellbeing of Nigerians.

          While commending Ogun State Government for playing a major role in the fight of the virus, the President implored government at all levels to pay more attention to the educational sector, noting that, ‘’investment in education yields immeasurable dividends, as it gives the country quality medical scientists, creative scholars and other creams of informed citizens, who could respond to any challenges that might arise in the health sector’’.

          Highlight of the visit was the donation of 1000 bottles of 125ml sanitizers to the State Government.
