OGSG HONOURS 16 OUTSTANDING CONTINGENTS OF NATIONAL COMPETITIONS.

In recognition of the outstanding performance of Ogun State contingents at the last Mathematical Association of Nigeria (MAN), Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN) and Spelling Bee competitions, the 16 learners have been rewarded with laptop and cash prizes each for making the State proud.

          Presenting the prizes on behalf of Governor Dapo Abiodun at her Conference Room, the Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, said the public honour became imperative to encourage the students, who were from both public and private schools in the State.

           According to her, ‘’Governor Dapo Abiodun is a man of his words, you would recall that last year at the education summit, he made the promise to reward excellence, the fulfilment is what you are witnessing now”.

          While saying that ‘’Ogun had always been seen as the education capital of the country and a State of many firsts’’, the Deputy Governor, said the gesture would encourage the children and others to do more, so as to sustain the legacies.

          "When we came into government, we were very concerned about the state of education vis-a-vis the infrastructure, low morale among the teachers and the very poor circumstances which the children were going to school.

          "We felt there is an urgent need for the repair of buildings which has started, we have boost the morale of teachers by effecting backlogs of promotions and teachers were paid as and when due. All these were moves to encourage the teachers to deliver more to the children", she said

          While charging the honourees to see the awards as the beginning of laurels for them, he commended the efforts of the staff of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Teachers and organisers of the competitions, saying, ‘’nothing brings out the best in people, than competitions’’.

          Earlier in her remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Primary, Secondary and Technical Education, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo, appreciated the Governor for the honour done on the outstanding learners, saying, they worth being celebrated.

          Responding on behalf of other awardees, Master Femi Odutola of Montclair College, Ifo, who took first position in the senior category of the Spelling Bee competition, said the award would spur them to do more, advising other students to work harder for them to receive such awards in the future.
