OGSG CREATES TRANSPORTATION MINISTRY, RENAMES COMMERCE, URBAN AND PHYSICAL PLANNING MINISTRIES

For effective service delivery, Ogun State Government has created a new Ministry of Transportation, as well as approved new names for two of its Ministries, as the Ministry of Commerce and Industry would now be known as the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, while that of the Ministry of Urban and Physical Planning was changed to Physical Planning and Urban Development.

The Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Kikelomo Longe, who disclosed this to newsmen while speaking on behalf of the State’s executive members, shortly after the inaugural Executive Council Meeting, held at the Executive Chambers, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, added that three new agencies, Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority (OGPDPA), Ogun State Building Production Management Authority (OGBPMA), as well as Ogun State Slum Regeneration Authority (OGSRA) were also approved to commence operation, under the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.

Mrs. Longe pointed out that the new Ministry of Transportation was established to sanitize the transportation sector and ensure adequate monitoring and effectiveness of road, rail, sea and air transport systems, saying, ‘’we also approved the Constitution of the Ogun State Tenders’ Board, in line with our commitment to ensure proper, qualitative and focused governance".  

Speaking on health care delivery, the Commissioner assured that Government would not allow its citizens to be devoured by communicable diseases, such as the ongoing Coronavirus and Lassa Fever, saying the present administration would continuously ensure active advocacy on health awareness on communicable diseases, as it was poised to continue to bring investment into the State and also make the environment conducive.

She added that Government was aware of the growing concerns about multiple taxation and perceived duplication of various charges, noting that the Executive Council has called for synergy and approved an initiative to harmonize revenue.

Meanwhile, the Executive at the sitting also approved the revocation of appointments of 75 minor chiefs elevated to Coronet Obas by the past administration in the State, said to be sequel to the report of Oba Kehinde Olugbenle's led Chieftaincy Review Committee, submitted to government, recommending the revocation of the appointments of the Coronet Obas, as their selection does not follow due process.
