Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has attributed high rate of unemployment in the country to lack of increased investments in various part of the Country, saying if there is no job, there will be no security.
The governor who stated this while playing host to Old students Association of Ijebu Muslim College, Ijebu-Ode at his Oke-mosan Office, said, he is so concerned about the high rate of unemployment in the state which informed his decision to set up a job portal on assumption of office, to have a data of unemployed youths in the state.
Represented by his deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the Governor said his government cannot absorb everybody and that his administration policy is to create an environment where investors will come into the state and create businesses which will in turn, create employment for the youths in the state.
‘’We are going to reduce unemployment rate in the state by creating an enabling environment for the would-be investors to come and invest and to also create a situation where the ease of doing business in the state will increase. We are also setting up an Investment Promotion Council Agency which is a one-stop-shop for investors to come in and get information as to what is required to set up their businesses, ranging from registration, land title and other things that may cause delay in setting up business in the state’’ he said.
The Governor added that his government is also working with the existing companies in the state, to understand their challenges and why they have not been able to grow over the years, believing with all these efforts put in place, there will be increase in number of job opportunities in the state.
Earlier in his address, the National President of Ijebu Muslim College Old Students Association, Ijebu -Ode, Engr.Kayode Sote said the school was founded in January 27, 1950 to cater for the short fall of Ijebu East in Secondary Education, adding the college has produced eminent Nigerians across different fields all over the country recording a higher number in Engineering.
He added that with Ijebu Muslim Council in place, it has established a Muslim Primary School, which had become focal point for muslim education in Nigeria, hinting that the College commences its 70th anniversary programmes from Friday.
The Old Students delegation was received by the Deputy Governor alongside with the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Salisu Shuaib.
