Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele has described effective communication and feedback as factors for good governance and engagement between the people and the government.
While assuring that the present administration remained accessible, she said it was essential for any government to get feedback from the masses, to enable it correct any wrong.
"Fake news is a global challenge that is not limited to us here and most reported speeches about government or organisations were never as good and accurate as the speech in many news platforms now’’.
The deputy Governor noted that people were moving away from print media for online news, saying the challenges remained that of confirming the authenticity.
Earlier in her address, the Chairman of Penpushing Media Editorial Board, Mrs. Funke Fadugba hinted that the news platform was a body of different professionals that cut across politics, traditional institutions, religious bodies and past Governors in the State.
While saying the platform had used its feedback mechanism to help government and other stakeholders achieve their aims and objectives, Fadugba
affirmed that the platform was an avenue to propagate genuine information to members of the public, as it had been able to moderate issues that could have generated into further controversies.
In a related development, the Deputy Governor, Engr Salako-Oyedele, has commended the efforts of the State’s Conference of Old Students/Alumni initiatives, at giving back to their Alma Mater, saying this would promote healthy rivalry among old students of Public Primary and Secondary Schools and help the State regain its position as a force to be reckon with in the education sector.
The Deputy Governor gave the commendation when she received executive members of the Association, led by its Chairman, Professor Delana Adelekan in her office in Abeokuta, said, "this administration was committed to qualitative education, however we have the challenge of funding and this is where your conference comes in, to help us pull people together and support us to promote the ideas".
Earlier in his remarks, Prof. Adelekan said the declining standard of education in the State was worrisome, hence the need for old students to come to the rescue by supporting government through the ‘’do something for your Alma Mater’’ initiative.
The Chairman reiterated the willingness of the conference to continue to partner with the State government to improve the standard of education, urging the present administration to take necessary actions on the issue of encroachment on lands belonging to public schools in the State.
