Clarion call to Nigerian Women

By:Oluwaseun  Boye

As Nigeria celebrates her 59th year of independence , there is a need for the women folk to wake up from its slumber and take its place of pride in nation-building.
Enough of lackadaisical attitude, as if it is inferior towards ensuring the stability of democratic government in Nigeria. It is high time the women took up political offices and support each other.

Over the past years, women have been known to be the architects of their own problems, rather than support each other,  they resorted to envy, backstabbing and internecine to discuss irrelevant issues which do not have any direct benefit to their involvement in politics, Women could come under an umbrella and form a political party and support one another to aspire to the topmost political echelon, with the complementary efforts of the opposite sex or even, rub shoulders with their male counterparts, as the case may be.

Arise, oh Nigerian women and heed the clarion call of participatory democracy, no more sitting on the fence, no more taking the back seat, no more sleeping in the other room, enough is enough. Posterity will not forgive and forsake us all if we allow the  efforts of the world leaders at the Beijing conference  to be in futility.

On the part of government, sidelining the women by depriving them of vantage positions  would not help in nation building, afterall women are known to be better managers. I call on all women irrespective of region, religion or  profession to come together to support one another to help build a better nation.
