Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele has restated the present administration's commitment to broaden the scope of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) across public secondary schools in the State in order to achieve qualitative education that parents desire for their wards.
Engr. Salako-Oyedele made this known while receiving the executive members of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) who paid her a courtesy visit in Abeokuta, said plans were underway to introduce quality assurance in secondary schools, as the Governor would appoint Consultants, to look into ways of upgrading the schools into the 21st century status.
"Bit by bit, we have started to actualize some of the promises made to teachers during the campaign; now salaries are being paid regularly, backlog of promotions approved, with that, I assure you, other promises would be actualised", she remarked.
Earlier, Chairman of Nigeria Union of Teachers, Ogun State Wing, Comrade Titilope Adebanjo, appreciated the State Government for the approval of the 2016 and 2017 promotion exercises, prompt payment of teacher's salaries and capacity building of teachers.
He however called on Government to recruit more qualified and young teachers, review teachers’ peculiar allowance from 15 percent to 27.5 percent and payment of 2015 to 2019 leave allowances which had dampened the enthusiasm of committed teachers.
Adebanjo also appealed for provision of more teaching and learning materials for both teachers and students, adding that equipping the guardian and counselling teachers to further complement classroom efforts should not be left out.
