The Ogun State Government has stepped up campaign against open defecation with a call on Local Government authorities, traditional institutions and community leaders to join crusade against the menace.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Tpl Yetunde Dina made the call when she led a team of Sanitation Officials from the Ministry on a sensitization campaign to Sagamu Local Government.
Tpl Dina said it was imperative for these respected groups within the society to support the campaign to reach every nook and cranny of the State, taken into cognisance the hazardous health implication, warning that Government would not tolerate open defecation in streams and other water channels by some residents of the State.
She added that residents of fifteen houses without toilets and those with defective facilities in Ita-Oba, Itunla and Ado areas, who were discovered during the sensitization campaign, had been given a 21-day Abatement Notice to comply or have their houses sealed.
For the Alado of Ado Sagamu, Oba Amisu Tijani, who hosted the sensitization team, commended Government for its efforts at eradicating the menace, urging residents to co-operate
