Ogun State government has said that plans are underway to address dearth of Islamic Religious Knowledge (IRK) and Arabic teachers in State Public Primary and Secondary Schools across the State.
The State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun stated this in his address at this year's Hijrah 1441 Muslim new year celebration organised by the National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO), Ogun State Chapter, held at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta.
Represented by his Deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the Governor said the issue has been brought to the attention of the concerned stakeholders like Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) and State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and it's being looked into.
"Most of your requests as National Association of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO), are already known to us since we took office. I can reliably tell you that the concern that you have with the IRK and Arabic teachers is being looked into by
TESCOM and SUBEB to make sure that we have equitable distribution of dividend of democracy" he said.
The State helmsman however, hinted on the Okowo-Dapo scheme, which he said, would be launched in few days, adding that the scheme, would give interest free loans to grassroot women accross the state for business purposes.
The programme, according to him, is a replica of the Federal Government Trader Moni programme and will give a start up loan of 10,000 and later increase up to 100,000 if applicants are faithful in payment. In the next few days, different sectors would start to register inorder to take part in this programme"
Governor Abiodun hereby congratulated Muslim faithfuls for the new year and solicited for support most especially in prayers in order to achieve its good governance policies.
Earlier in his welcome address, the State Coordinator of NACOMYO, Dr. Solih Amolegbe noted that the significance of Hijrah in the lives of muslims was very paramount as it was an occasion to remind muslim Faithfuls of the period of steadfastness during the migration of the early muslim under the leadership of Prophet Muhammad in the phase of tribulation of the Makkah pagans.
He added that NACOMYO, being an apex body and rallying point for all Muslim Youth Organisations in the state and the country at large,called on muslim youths in the state to eschew violence and be law abiding citizens so as to enable the government achieve her statutory responsibilities.
Speaking on the theme of the new year celebration tagged" Historical Value of Hijrah on International Integration", the guest lecturer from the Department of Foreign Languages, Lagos State University, Dr. Saheed Olurotimi described National integration, as an attempt at uniting or bringing together hitherto multi-ethnic groups of people with diverse culture, histories, languages, religions and belief systems into one which would remove primordial and subordinate loyalties and sentiments to ethnic groups.
He submitted that for the country to be united, there is urgent need to ensure a reeducation, re-orientation and a total rededication to the cause national progress.
According to Olurotimi, "It is not a political revolution that would create upheavals, but rather an ethical revolution occasioned by a gradual psycho-social evolution of the Nigerian mind through a carefully planned and faithfully implemented multisectoral social re-engineering of the micro and macro systems of the nation".
Advising Nigerians on the lessons of Hijrah, he said they must be ready to move mentally and attitudinally from their comfort zone, noting that there was a sacrifice to pay for progress.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of 1441 Hijrah personality award to the Ogun State Head of Service, Engr. Olanrewaju Bisiriyu for his indelible contributions to NACOMYO in Ogun State and match-past by Islamic Students.
