Abiodun launches Oko'wo Dapo; empowers 2000 women

Ogun state Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has described the empowerment initiative of oko'wo Dapo as a demonstration of his administration 's unreserved commitment towards creating a more prosperous life for all the people of the state irrespective of their geographical location,  gender, religious or political affiliations and their
economic stratification.

The Governor who made this known at the June 12 Cultural centre, kuto Abeokuta while launching an empowerment programme for women as part of activities marking his 100 days in office, said it was imperative to empower his people economically in order to fulfil his political mantra of " building our future together " adding that Ogun women deserved to be taken care of.

He added that he would continue to ensure an enabling environment for public private Partnership that is fundamental to the creation of an enduring economic development and individual prosperity for the people.

Earlier in her welcome address, the wife of the Ogun State Governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun said the scheme was put together to empower the women by maintaining their standard of living,  create assets and in all  to ensure poverty reduction .

Mrs Abiodun  added that Oko"wo  Dapo was  an empowerment initiative that would provide refundable micro loans to millions of women,small and micro entrepreneurs, traders and artisans who typically lacks collateral and steady employment or a verifiable credit history.

"Our aims is to provide group clusters that  would provide the required collateral for the loan.

The schene is based on a sustainable approach where the repayment will go back to the scheme which will be made available for lending to other female owned small and micro businesses" she hinted.

She urged beneficiaries to use the funds prudently as it was the beginning of the journey towards financial security and independence for ogun women  calling all stakeholders to also  join hands  in helping the women secure sustainable business and a brighter future.

Explaining the Oko'wo Dapo empowerment scheme to the  women, Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele said that the scheme was in furtherance  to the fulfilment of electioneering promises made by the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun during  the campaigns ,noting that majority of  their followers were mainly women.

"The schene works within a cluster of ten women, whereby the sum of ten thousand naira is presented to them and they make returns of five hundred naira each after 2 weeks.

This  process would revolve round for 20 weeks after which the women would have saved the sum of ten thousand naira as well as return their initial  credit which will enable them to upgrade and access higher loan facility" she explained.
