It was a day of accolades and encomiums as sons and daughters of Awori Kingdom gathered to celebrate one of their own, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele as the first Awori Deputy Governor in Ogun State .
The reception held at Nana's Arena Hall, Ikeja, Lagos, was witnessed by royal fathers, past and present political office holders, top government functionaries, from Ogun and Lagos States as all were full of appreciation to Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for recognising the Aworis and giving them an opportunity to serve in his government.
Speaking at the event, the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, noted that the choice of his running mate from Awori was a right step, adding that he was optimistic that she would justify the confidence reposed in her choice.
The Governor who was represented by his wife, Mrs.Bamidele Abiodun, expressed confidence in the choice of Engr. Salako-Oyedele, adding that apart from being a close childhood friend, she was a sister dear to her heart, who would join her husband to take the state to a greater level.
Also speaking, the Olota of Ota, HRM, Oba (Prof) Abdulkabir Adeyemi Obalanlege, said he has no doubt that the celebrant would prove herself worthy as an ambassador and model of Aworiland due to her character, upbringing, intellectual capabilities and exposure.
According to him, ' please permit me to preach peace and cooperation among our elite and those coming behind. We must cooperate, only then can we succeed as a people.
"We all should exhibit a strong demonstration of patience, perseverance , steadfastness, obedient and commitment to help her succeed" he said.
Earlier in his opening remark, the Chairman of the occasion, Senator Akin Odunsi, said the event was an avenue to rekindle the oduduwa heritage, while appealing to all awori sons and daughters to rally round their own, unite and speak in one voice, in order to claim all lost grounds.
He also appreciated Governor Dapo Abiodun, for giving her the opportunity to serve as the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, while urging all Aworis to support their daughter, to make her tenure a peaceful and successful one.
In his goodwill message, Asiwaju Olawale-Cole, an illustrious son of Aworiland, described Salako- Oyedele as a silent achiever of notable repute, who has been a worthy ambassador of the Aworis, adding that her over three decades of professionalism and excellence was worthy of commendation.
While tracing the origin of Awori to Ile-Ife, Olawale-Cole, said that the aworis held strategic place in the socio-economic development of Ogun, Lagos and the country at large.
The President, Awori Welfare Association of Nigeria (AWAN), Chief Solomon Ojolowo, who also spoke at the event enjoined all Awori descendants to unite in championing the cause of Awori nation and promoting its progress and development.
In her response, Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, said she was humbled by the honour bestowed on her, by the great sons and daughters of the Awori Kingdom,appreciating the potential significance and values which the organizers have attached to it.
Salako-Oyedele said that the political tolerance and careful economic plan have made people from other parts of Nigeria to identify with the Awori's, adding that they occupied a preeminent position in all fields of human endeavours in Nigeria and their roles in entrenching good democratic principles and processes cannot be ignored.
" As an Awori daughter, I will continue to build on the foundation and even carry those virtues beyond. Even, before this government, I have been a good ambassador of Awori in different areas of life. It is the same spirit of diligence and excellence that I will build upon, so that people will know what the Awori stands for" she remarked.
The Deputy Governor, also added that the Administration of Prince Dapo Abiodun, was set to bridge the gap of development in all parts of the State, assuring the citizens that the good governance policies of the present administration in Ogun remains unwavering.
