Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, has assured of better welfare for youth Corps members serving in the State, noting that the present government under the leadership of Prince Dapo Abiodun was committed to youth empowerment and would support the scheme as much as possible.
The Deputy Governor made this known when she received in her office in Abeokuta, the State National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) management team led by its Coordinator, Mrs. Belinda Faniyi, describing NYSC as the beginning of another phase in the lives of the youths.
"The Governor is also very particular about skills acquisition and he has said that it is going to be a very important factor for assisting our youths to make them employable and to also give them alternative opportunities, in order to be gainfully employed and not just rely on white collar jobs", she said.
Earlier in her remarks, the NYSC Coordinator thanked the State Government for the financial assistance rendered during the last orientation course, saying it was used to augment the feeding of Corps members, as well as cater for their material needs on camp.
She appealed to Governor Abiodun to look into various challenges hampering welfare of Corps members deployed to the State for primary assignments and community development programmes, so as to be able to contribute effectively to nation building.
