Wife of the Ogun State Governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun has advised Nigerians, particularly citizens of the State to avoid lifestyles that could predispose them to Hepatitis disease, as well as get tested and be immunized to mitigate its spread.
Mrs. Abiodun gave this advice at the Flag-off of the Hepatitis Screening, to mark the 2019 World Hepatitis Day in the State, with the theme, ‘’Investment In Eliminating Hepatitis’’, held at the Joju Primary Health Care Centre, Sango Ota.
While noting that government in compliance with this year's theme has taken steps to curtail the spread of the disease to the barest minimum, she urged people to be wary of indiscriminate use of Paracetamol and limit alcohol intake, which might trigger the disease.
The Wife of the Governor added that, one of the ways to eliminate the menace was by ensuring community awareness through periodic sensitisation, regular medical checkups, for early detection and eating balanced diets, among others.
In her remark, the Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, enjoined the people to get screened and vaccinated, urging them to inform others on the need to be immunized against the disease.
Earlier in her welcome address, the South-West Commissioner, World Hepatitis Zero, Princess Feyikemi Egbeyemi, said early detection could be treated, adding that the vaccine, once taken, would last for a period of thirty years.
