OPIC ASSURES OF MORE HOUSING DELIVERY FOR OGUN RESIDENTS

The Acting Managing Director (MD), Ogun State Property and Investment Corporation (OPIC), Mrs. Ibiyemi Adesoye, has assured of the Corporation’s readiness to deliver more affordable housing units, to both individuals and corporate bodies, for the expansion and development of the State.

          Adesoye gave the assurance when she led management team of the Corporation on a courtesy visit to the State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele in her office at Oke- Mosan, Abeokuta, to brief her on activities of OPIC, identify with her and tap from her wealth of experience as a guru in property development.

          She pointed out that OPIC was established in September 1984, as a self- sustaining body, saddled with the responsibility of driving focused economic growth through well planned property development activities and investments, especially along major border areas.

          Adesoye disclosed that till date, the Corporation had some of her Estates in Agbara, covering a total land area of 8,000 hectares, with 1,000 serviced plots already allocated within the Estate, adding that,‘’our Estate in Isheri is  made up of MTR Gardens, comprising  of 2 and 3 bedroom apartments of 600 units. We own and manage estates and new towns which include OPIC Estates in  Agbara/ Igbesa  , Isheri , New Makun City and Orange Valley Estate in Abeokuta.

          According to the Acting MD, there were also commercial buildings, such as OPIC Plaza, Ikeja, Lagos , OPIC Towers, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta and OPIC house and Event Centre, Isheri.

          "A major attraction for all OPIC Estates is the special consideration that is accorded security, peace and comfort of residents and tenants. The estates have schools, hospitals, police posts, shopping complexes and other basic infrastructure", she explained.

          Adesoye while calling for more partnership from Public Private sector,  said, the Family Home Funds ( FHF), an initiative of the  Federal Government Social Housing Project, was aimed at making housing affordable and available for low income earners in the Country, adding that Ogun State was chosen as one of the pilot states to test run the scheme.

          She said the scheme, which was currently active, has 36 units of studio flats, 456 units, each of 1 and 2 bedroom flats and 72 units of 3 bedroom bungalows at various stages of completion, adding that development of phase 2 MTR Gardens and Orange Valley Estate would commence soon.

          In her response, the State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako- Oyedele appreciated the management team for the visit, noting that one of the missions of the Dapo Abiodun led- government was to ensure provision of affordable housing to the residents of the State.

                    While commending the Family Home Funds initiative, which she described as an affordable and sensible project to embrace, she noted that for real estate to thrive, land must be available at the right place , adding that the present administration would engage more public  private partnership to invest in the State.

          The Deputy Governor stated that, the Ogun State Investment Promotion Council proposed by the State government would ensure that, a template is put in place to legalized and ensure good guide for business to thrive and to ensure Ogun State was not short changed in the process.
